Nintendo recently released a new update for the Switch. This is version 18.1.0, which includes some minor stability adjustments for the system. The bad news is that the update causes the hybrid console to lose a useful feature that many players will miss, especially those who are very active on social media.
Nintendo Switch loses support for X (Twitter)
Through its support page, Nintendo revealed the details of the 18.1.0 update. Thanks to this, we know that the update includes unspecified stability improvements. Additionally, support for Twitter, now known as X, has been completely removed.
Due to this, players will no longer find the "Post to Twitter" option when they want to share something from the album. Moreover, the ability to post screenshots from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has also been eliminated.
The update removes the option to link an account from Elon Musk's social network through the Settings menu or the My Page section. With this, the hybrid console has completely lost its support for the popular platform.
In case you didn't know, PlayStation and Xbox are in the same situation, as they also decided to end support for X. This is due to the increase in API usage fees of the social network on third-party platforms.
This directly affects users of all consoles, so Musk has committed to doing something about it. In the case of Nintendo, X made it clear that their relationship is still solid and that they will continue collaborating in new ways in the future.
"As part of Nintendo's planned discontinuation of content sharing with X from Nintendo Switch, starting June 11, users will need to download Switch gameplay media directly to their smartphones and share them natively on our platform," commented a spokesperson for the social network.
