Five Nights at Freddy’s is in celebration mode as it will mark its 10th anniversary in 2024. Creator Scott Cawthon and his collaborators are already preparing some surprises for the fans. Thus, it has just been confirmed that a popular game from the franchise will finally arrive on PlayStation 5.
Over its 10-year history, the franchise has experimented with different styles and genres through its main games and various spin-offs. In 2019, the first installment of Help Wanted, a derivative title that brought the terror of the animatronics to virtual reality, was released with great success.
The sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 was released in December 2023 to very positive reception. However, it has a problem: it is only available for PlayStation VR2 and Steam. This means that users of Sony's next-gen console need a virtual reality device to play. Fortunately, that's about to change very soon.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 to Stop Being VR Exclusive and Come to PS5
Ray McCaffrey, development director at Steel Wool Studios, turned to the official PlayStation blog to confirm that the horror video game will no longer be exclusive to virtual reality. In this way, PS5 owners will be able to enjoy it without the need for a VR headset.
The release is near, as the developer announced that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 will be available for PlayStation 5 starting on June 20, 2024. In the blog post, it was confirmed that they adapted the experience to work with the console's DualSense controller.
Ray McCaffrey emphasized that the team took great care to ensure that the 40 minigames are still enjoyable with the new control scheme. For example, Captain Foxy's Log Ride now functions as a more traditional FPS where players must use the joystick to aim and press the trigger on the controller to shoot.
The good news doesn't end here. The developer confirmed that players who already own the PlayStation VR2 version will get the PS5 port for free, although it's unknown if the same applies in reverse. Either way, a new audience will be able to enjoy one of the best FNAF games.
