Sony removes Gran Turismo Sport from the PlayStation Store. How to continue playing if you already have it?

In the digital era, video games have an expiration date in the market, especially those that have official licenses from real-life brands or companies. This is the sad fate of racing games, and although there is no deception about it, Sony has surprised PlayStation users by removing the Gran Turismo installment that accompanied the PS4.

Gran Turismo Sport is no longer available on the PlayStation Store

2024 has not taken long to deliver its first controversy, and this time the focus is on PlayStation, as users discovered that Gran Turismo Sport was removed from its digital version on the PlayStation Store. This was confirmed after reviewing the PlayStation store on its web version and the one displayed on consoles. In both cases, Gran Turismo Sport no longer appears for purchase, and this happens almost 30 days before the closure of its servers.

Can I still play Gran Turismo Sport after the server closure?

Last September, Sony announced that on January 31, 2024, the servers for Gran Turismo Sport would be shut down, marking the end of the cycle for this installment that divided opinions because, more than a traditional title, it was considered from the perspective of online competitive play.

Likewise, the Japanese company reported that as of December 1, 2023, additional content could no longer be purchased in the Gran Turismo Sport store. What was not reported is that the game would no longer be available in its digital format as soon as 2024 started, so if someone is interested in trying it, they must acquire a physical copy.

According to Sony and Polyphony Digital's official information, the offline portions of Gran Turismo Sport will remain available for users who already own the game.

The removal of racing games in recent years is not new because the license rights for cars and brands displayed in them do not last for many years. This has happened with releases from Codemasters and also in the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series on Xbox. However, the issue at hand is that there was no notice of the removal of Gran Turismo Sport from the PlayStation Store, taking the public by surprise.
