When we first heard about Shadows of the Damned before its release in 2011, we imagined that the Dream Team consisting of Suda51, Shinji Mikami, and Akira Yamaoka would create a milestone in Survival Horror. Later, we realized that it was actually a unique work with a different perspective on horror, gore, and satire. Now that the resurgence of these classic games has become a trend, the creator of this franchise is considering the possibilities of a new release.
Suda51 envisions a new installment of Shadows of the Damned
During an interview with VGC, Suda51 talked about Shadows of the Damned and what he would like to do in the future, now that a remastered version is in development. To start with, Goichi Suda revealed that his impossible dream is to realize the original version of Shadows of the Damned as he envisioned it before encountering a series of creative and content limitations imposed by Electronic Arts, the game's publisher.
In this regard, Suda51 mentioned that this is impossible, as they would essentially have to rebuild Shadows of the Damned from scratch to incorporate all the ideas he originally planned to use for the remaster: "If we were to make Shadows of the Damned the way I originally planned and use all the ideas I originally wanted to use for the remaster, we'd basically have to remake the entire game from scratch. So, this time it will be a faithful remaster of the original game, the game that fans had before, just remastered and improved."

Despite this, Suda51 assured that those original ideas are still there and maybe, if conditions are right, he could bring them back in a new installment of the franchise. He's interested in developing the characters further: "I hope that at some point in the future, I'll have the opportunity to use the ideas I couldn't use initially. I've stored them away for possible use, so I hope that someday we can see something closer to my original vision for this game. There's nothing concrete that we've established or anything, but I hope we can use this remaster as a kind of starting point to develop these characters more and maybe give them a bit more use. It could be a sequel or a future unrelated game or something like that, but I want to use these characters a bit more freely. I definitely would like to revisit them and do something with them in the future."
Lastly, Suda51 acknowledged that his ideas for new installments of Shadows of the Damned include the desire for Shinji Mikami, the father of Resident Evil, founder of Tango Gameworks, and former director of that studio, to be part of the development.
