Man murders neighbor with a bag full of Pokémon cards; sentenced to life imprisonment

Andrew Hague took the life of Simon Wilkinson in a fit of rage after a dispute

One of the most well-known and popular franchises in the entertainment world was involved in a tragedy that shook a community in Fox Hill Road, Sheffield, a few months ago.

MAN RECEIVES LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR TAKING HIS NEIGHBOR'S LIFE WITH A BAG FULL OF POKÉMON CARDS

On August 2nd of last year, Andrew Hague, a 31-year-old British man, cold-bloodedly took the life of his 50-year-old neighbor Simon Wilkinson. The case made headlines not only because of the brutality of the attack, but also because one of the main weapons used in the homicide was a bag full of collectible Pokémon cards.

According to reports, both men participated in a dispute after Simon Wilkinson accused Andrew Hague of being a degenerate. Hague used a bag that had "4 or 5 cans with Pokémon cards" to repeatedly attack his neighbor until he was seriously injured. In an act of "mercy", he left the bag and took a wooden board to end the victim's life.

Simon Wilkinson, a father, lost his life on the spot in front of apartment residents' eyes. Earlier this year, the attacker pleaded guilty to murder and confessed that he "lost control". Judge Sarah Wright described the altercation as "vicious and brutal".

Andrew Hague, who has a history of mental problems and had already been convicted of violent acts, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum sentence of 17 years. After the psychiatric report, the judge ruled that the defendant's mental illness probably did not affect his ability to understand his behavior or exercise self-control. In addition, she stated that it is likely that cannabis consumption influenced his judgment during the incident.

The judge overseeing the case recommended that Andrew Hague be readmitted and remain at Rampton, a high-security psychiatric hospital located in Nottinghamshire.

"No sentence can alleviate the pain and sorrow that Mr. Wilkinson's family and friends face daily since he was killed, but I hope that with the conclusion of our investigation and legal proceedings, they feel that they now have some justice for their loved one," said Inspector John Fitzgibbons of the local police force.
