Undoubtedly, video game adaptations are living their golden age. While The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still very popular and dominates the international box office, the live-action film of Five Nights at Freddy's is already on the horizon. However, this weekend it caused a scandal.

The film by Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures has already finished filming, so it is currently in the post-production phase. Beyond some behind-the-scenes photos, not much is known about this project. Therefore, fans are eager to see the first official trailer to discover the first details of the plot and setting.

This weekend, the trailer already appeared on the internet, but in a way that undoubtedly did not sit well with those in charge.

Leak of the Five Nights at Freddy's trailer disappoints Scott Cawthon, creator of the franchise

The first official trailer of the film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's was leaked and began circulating on Twitter and other social media. The teaser shows a little over 2 minutes of unseen footage, allowing viewers to see the animatronics and the lead actors.

While Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures have done everything possible to mitigate the leak, the truth is that it is very easy to find it. In response, Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy's and developer of the first franchise installments, shared a message on Reddit.

Specifically, the developer regretted this situation and said that he found out about it while he was at the amusement park with his children. He confessed that, even if he tried to stay on the sidelines and ignore the controversy, the leak was very discouraging.

"I know that Blumhouse and Universal (and me too) have all worked very hard to make something really exciting to share. So the thought of a first-look being spoiled was frustrating, and I was really dreading coming home to see what all had happened while I was away", Scott Cawthon said.

However, the developer comments that he discovered that many fans did everything possible to contain the leak. "It's really difficult, if not impossible, to prevent people from trying to spoil things for everyone else, but it was really encouraging to see the fanbase pull together and push back against it.," he said.

Finally, the creative affirms that fans will be happy to see the polished and finished trailer of Five Nights at Freddy's, as he promises that the editing and sound effects still need to be completed.

But tell us, did you see the leaked trailer? What did you think? Let us know in the comments.

The Five Nights at Freddy's movie will arrive in theaters on October 27, 2023.
