At this point in time, everybody knows Barbie, a complete pop-culture icon and a reference for a ton of concepts both good and bad. However, do you know what isn’t bad at all? The latest teaser trailer for the Barbie movie.
I hope you haven’t forgotten that back in 2021 it was announced that the movie was in the works, with Greta Gerwing (Lady Bird and Little Women) directing and an incredible cast composed of Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Michael Cera and many more.

The filming wrapped on July 21 this year and while a couple of images had been circulating around of Robbie and Gosling in their respective characters we didn’t have a complete idea of which approach was this romantic comedy taking. The “wait” is over as the first trailer while short is completely full of personality.
To begin with, the teaser starts parodying the opening sequence of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, of course without apes and bones but with little girls and old-fashioned baby dolls. Then the image of Robbie styled as the 1959 Barbie White and Black swimsuit followed by a burst of colour where we can catch a glimpse of Ryan Gosling, Ncuti Gatwa, Issa Rae and Simu Lui in their movie appearances.
So far, the sense of self-awareness and the pink plastic world teased make us want time to pass faster so we can see the final result. We don’t doubt a full-length trailer will be released eventually but until that day comes lets enjoy this teaser:
The Barbie movie is scheduled to be released on July 21, 2023, in the United States and United Kingdom cinemas.
