While sign-ups for the Diablo IV Beta opened in June of this year, Blizzard has yet to reveal when they should start — but there are indications that it shouldn't take long. According to Wowhead, some files from the early access period are already appearing in the Battle.net PC launcher.
If this information is correct, that would mean the developer isn't ready to release an official date for the Beta yet, but it's already laying the groundwork for when it happens.
Recently, the company has started a series of promotions abroad that grant access to the game's trials in exchange for a tattoo themed on the series.
While the company released several updates about the Diablo IV universe last week, the game remains without a set release date. Although, Blizzard promised that the game would be released sometime in 2023 without providing details on the scope of tests it intends to carry out.
Diablo IV will carry big responsibilities
Conducting beta testing phases is a longstanding tradition in the series, which predates the release of Diablo III in 2012. In addition to testing its network, Blizzard is known for altering things like art direction and game mechanics before releasing the final version of its games to stores. Diablo III, for example, was darker when it first hit the player's hands.
Diablo IV's testing should be crucial to Blizzard, given the importance the game is supposed to have for its story. Not only will it be the sequel to one of its biggest franchises, but it will come at a time when Diablo Immortal is the center of criticism for its monetization, and the developer is still dealing with allegations of harassment that have emerged in recent years.
According to Blizzard's General Manager, Rod Fergusson, the company is committed to delivering an incredible breadth of content after launch for years to come, whose only additional purchases involve cosmetics and expansions. Scheduled for 2023, Diablo IV will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
