We have come to a point where running DOOM on any device is not only a hobby but a necessity. I bet you have already lost count of how many objects and devices can run DOOM, nonetheless, I'm sure you will not forget this one as now DOOM can run inside itself.
Yes, you read that one right. A Youtuber and programmer known as Kgsws decided to take the power of DOOM to another level.
Kgsws was able to run the game inside itself and to achieve this, he took advantage of the SpawnMapThing command, which is used to place weapons, enemies and other objects in DOOM levels.
Is DOOMception the last stage?
With his research, the YouTuber discovered that there is a way to replace a certain portion of the code by launching their own executables. For example, he chose the DOS version of DOOM to make DOOM run inside DOOM so you can play DOOM while playing DOOM. Of course, since both games operate independently then you will need a PC with twice as much memory; that is 16 MB of RAM.
In order to achieve this, Kgsws had to fix several bugs, even though many of these bugs were the ones that let him accomplish this feat, to begin with.
